kitten's wiskers breaking

janome Sep 02, 2006 02:00 PM

ambers hope is doing great. eveyone is settling in. i noticed her wiskers are breaking off. you know the ones on her face/lips. does anyone know why? i dont' remember this happening to my others when they were kittens.

the only thing i can think of is daisy and her are playing rough, then they break. or could it be a health issue? i haven't looked up anything about this yet. just wanted to see if someone had idea here.

thank you. she was sneezing a bit and having diarrhea but that all seems alot better now. only occasional sneeze and no diarrhea now. yea. she is getting big already. to bad they can't stay small.

Hi Janome,

There is a possibility that Daisy is chewing the kittens whiskers off. This may sound odd, but it is a way a cat may show affection. Mother kitties will sometimes chew off the whiskers of their favorite kitten in the litter. This is so that they are not likely to go far, and will be safe.

Either that, or the short whiskers are just because the cats are playing rough. It's not something you have to worry about. Whiskers will grow back.

Regards,

Tucker and Gabby both had missing face whiskers when they were little. The vet told me not to worry about it.
