i have a question, please let me know....

dagangsta Oct 13, 2003 02:03 PM

i got a rudis chameleon from "animal trax" at the Havre De Grace reptile show, and i was wondering if it is better to keep him in a 10 gallon glass aquarium or a hamster/guinea pig cage until i have the money to build a screen cage (probably will be about a week)

please help me out i have him in a glass aquarium for the time being and i take him out and put him on a tree in my room as often as possible.

thanks

They are a lot like Jacksons.

Do you have any other pets? Could you just get a ficus or two, a few braches, and let him free range? Keep him sprayed and nice and humid? Im sure he would appreciate that a lot!

If you cant, then take your 10 G tank. set it up on end and make sure he has room to climb - and HIDE!

I see you do take him out though and that is good. Maybe leave him in the glass - and make sure he gets his UVB - put it over the tree he goes out on.

Other than that...if it will only be a week...as long as he is eating and getting exercise you should be just fine. Anything over 2 weeks and I would start to get "nervous".

good luck.

ok, well i don't quite get what you mean, but yea, i have 2 cats inside and a dog but they usually don't come in my room, so are you saying i get this ficus plant and just like put it in the middle of the room and have the dripper drip to that and spray her a lot? and are you saying i could do this for good or just for the week? sorry for all the questions i just wanna do whats best for her, and can't i just take her outside in the sun for like a coupla hours a week for all the uv she needs?

You can set up a wall-less cage with a large ficus tree perminate if you want. I know people that do that. but I'd keep your door closed where the cats or dog dont see it, that could be BAD news.
The way my friend has it set up is they have a hybiscus tree (they dont have a ficus) setting beside their window.they have about 5 fake vines nailed in over one side if the window and down into the hybiscus. they have a heat lamp clamped at the top of the other side of the window (where the cham cant reach) pointed at the vines. They hung a dripper from a hook on the ceiling into the vines, not the tree, and catch the water in a tuperware container underneith. its really interesting. they've had the cham for over a year and it's doing good it never once wandered off its home. I guess I'd watch it for a few days though. Hope this helps.
