The furkids

Mya has the runs again. I don't know what the heck is going on! Of course it is Saturday, so unless it gets really bad, I'm going to see if we can wait until Monday (and I can call her new vet).
Gabby seems to be doing ok.

Since Mya is a dog and dogs gobble up everything and aren't as picky as cats... I know my friend was advised to feed cooked white rice -- a bland diet -- to help stop the runs after her dogs got into some dark meat turkey and skin and got really sick. I'd try calling the vet this weekend (most are open Saturday) and see what they recommend feeding her over the weekend -- but do know white rice was a large staple of what my friend fed her sick dogs to stop diarrhea, etc... I'll be right back, I am going to sign off and call her and see what exactly she fed (did she mix with chicken stock, etc...)...

OK. Called my friend (Mindy). When her dogs got into the dark meat turkey/skin and got really sick, she had to take them to the vet. They were put on Science Diet special diet for a week or two (made for intestinal problems) and she had to gradually introduce the Science Diet in. Basically, she took all food and water away for a few hours, then gave small amount of water and food (Science Diet) and gradually built up. But, the only thing they ate for the couple weeks was the Science Diet to get back on track.

However, they were chronic vomit/diarrhea. Sounds like Mya is similar to her dog Hops who just had a spell a week or so ago. It was a Saturday. They are very good about cleaning up after meals, but for some reason, they stepped away and he had snarfed all the leftovers on top of the table. He had bad runs and some vomit the next day. So, she fed him a very bland diet of boiled lean ground meat (lean ground beef or pork) mixed with boiled plain white rice and it seemed to clear things up in about four days... If you can't get her into the vet this weekend, you may want to start her on a rice/boiled meat diet the rest of today and tomorrow thru when you can get her in (if it doesn't clear up). No other dog food -- the rice and boiled lean ground meat. Drain the meat before mixing with rice. She used pork as that was what she had on hand, but beef (lean hamburger) works. Make sure she is drinking a lot of water... Took Mindy's dog about 4 or 5 days. Hops is about Mya's size -- he is a Lab/Shephard mix.

Thanks Tammy,
She hasn't gone since yesterday morning. The vet did tell me she may not go because after pooh-fire they tend to not go for a couple days. So I am hoping she is all better!
I'll let everyone know what happens as soon as it happens.
I should get packing to head back up to Scaryville.

They like to keep you on your toes, those kitties. First they get you to worry about one thing. Then they get you to worry about exactly the opposite thing. A good human is an off-balance human, as far as they are concerned.
