Early Christmas present

teganslaw Nov 26, 2006 07:07 PM

I recently ordered a cat tunnel from Petco. It's vinyl, with a fleece covering inside and has a couple of toy balls attached. The product got great customer reviews and I thought my cats would also like it since they are always hiding. The cat tunnel arrived yesterday and didn't go over as planned. Both cats played a little bit with the attached balls, but that was it. They're more interested in playing with the brown wrapping paper that was in the box! Quentin has been attacking the paper and Star was checking out the box. Neither cat has taken an interest in the tunnel. According to customer reviews, other cats have loved the tunnel. Why do I have such strange cats? LOL. Instead they prefer paper.
I'm not sure if I'll keep the tunnel or not; maybe they'll check it out later. As for now, it seems that they'd be happy with a box and paper for Christmas.

LOL! Your cats are entirely normal. After they get tired of the neat-o paper and box, they will probably enjoy the tunnel. Give them time!

My mother had one for Maggie years ago - Maggie loved it for about 3 months then never had anything to do with it again, so she gave it to me. Romeo could have cared less at first. Eventually I found the 'sweet spot' - a certain spot in the living room where I could put it and he could watch everything going on without taking part. He'd take a few toys in there like a troll guarding treasures in a cave. Really I think he liked the spot because it ticked off Annie. The tunnel only came out maybe a week a month - about the time it got boring, I'd put it up for awhile.

MOL, and you're surprised! Seems like that is often the case...but once the paper and box are gone, they may decide the tunnel isn't such a bad deal...

Hi,

I have had one of these play tunnels for several years. Some of my cats love it and use it daily, others totally ignore it. If you leave it out perhaps at least one of your babies will start using it, but you know how cats are!

LOL. Sounds perfectly normal...

I bought some of the Catnip Bubbles after folks raved that their cats loved them. Pookey ran into another room when I started blowing the bubbles. Stanley sat several feet away and watched them with a wary eye. After I put them up, he rolled around on the wet carpet where the bubbles hit... I tried a couple times and wound up giving them to a lady that I work with that has scads of cats...

Ellen,

I know this feeling only too well - every time I think that I am getting Boris a toy tha he will love, he simply turns his head and has nothing to do with it. He prefers his tunnels made from newspapers and his favorite toy is a chestnut hull that he can bat all around. I guess that is why they say cats are so unpredictable! LOL!
