"Brat" cats

teganslaw Dec 20, 2006 06:51 PM

My cats have been busy at night. I have a tree skirt wrapped around the Christmas tree to hide the bottom stand. Most mornings when I get up I find the skirt pulled away from the tree, and in the middle of the living room. I also have one of my husband's presents underneath the tree. This morning the bow on the present was torn off. The box wasn't touched other than the bow. I figure that it's probably Quentin doing these things because he likes to hang around the Christmas tree. It could be Star, though; she's not always so innocent. Whoever it is, they have a good time once I go to bed. LOL. I should set up a camera lens one of these days so I can record exactly what goes on in my absence. Or maybe I wouldn't want to know.

#1 - All presents go in the closet-not under the tree as Boris loves to open boxes. This week before the "sub-humnan" could put the box in the closet, he turned his back to put up the tape and Boris promptly tore into the wrapping paper and box. We now have a mixture of wrapping paper and a taped-up box.

#2 - I got a skirt this year as well. Boris loves to play with chestnut hulls from the nuts that we have roasted. He bats them under the skirt and then bulldozes his way under the skirt to find them. So far the skirt has been completely flipped around at least a dozen times, the velcro unfastened at least 5 times, and one lunge that almost toppled the tree when his head hit the stand. Thank goodness it is pretty heavy - 9' tree. I don't hink he could hurt his head.

Rule in our house is no bows or ribbons on presents under the tree. Bows are ripped off, and ribbon, well, chew, chew, dont wanna go there.
Kasha has a few favorite ornaments on the lower branches, and I just put them back on, again. She will play with those and leave everything else alone. Smig hasn't seen the tree, yet.

LOL, I hear you.

I have 4 or 5 gifts out that my Mom sent me; just got them tonight and put them out. I was exhausted after work and decided to take a 20 min nap (something I never do). I just closed my eyes on the recliner and I heard a strange sound. Pookey was sniffing and licking and chewing on all the corners of the gifts. Something he's never done. I told him to stop and he did... Closed my eyes. Not all the way tho. He went back over and very carefully sniffed the boxes and started licking them, stopped, looked over his shoulder at me, and kept doing it, peeking back at me every so often. Once his interest was satisfied, he left them alone. I went out for dinner tonight and came back and the gifts were OK -- he hadn't really messed with them any further...

My girls are heartbroken. Not only did I not put out Annie Cat's favorite glass bulbs to pluck off the tree, there are mounds and mounds of gifts under it this year. Its a mine field just to get to the trunk! How's a cat supposed to take a nice nap among the lights if you can't even get to the starting point?
