poor kitty

Luckily we've had decent weather here in my part of southern Cali lately. Why? Cause there's this cat that has adopted our neighbors to the east of us and the ones next to them as well. Both sets are feeding it. Actually it's a him. I finally saw our neighbor and asked about the cat. She had just taken him to the vet......it's a he, he's fixed, and he's 13-14 years old. Appears to be a stray or abadoned. He was pretty scraggly when he showed up around Christmas time. But he's looking healthier since they've been leaving food out for him. I think it was Saturday that we asked and she was waiting for blood work to see if he's healthy.
What's breaking my heart is that he's starting to take a liking to us now. He's not even afraid of Katelyn. He greets us as we come and go from taking her to school and other activities. And though we've never fed him, he knows we have cats and he's now trying to sneek in when we come and go. I have to stick my foot out and make him back away. It's hard when I'm also trying to get a 5 yr old out the door. And tonight he's crying on our front porch to let him in. It's not freezing but it is a bit chilly tonight. With all my heart I wish we could let him in. Looks like I'm going to have to ask the neighbor if she got the results of his blood work back yet. And then if everything is okay I'll have to work on dh to add an old furbaby to the mix.

Bless you and your neighbors' hearts for helping him out. I hope everything is OK and he can join your family and his twilight years will be comfy and cozy inside...

What I just can't understand is, if he is 13 or 14, and he is obviously someone's pet, if he made it this long with a family, how can they just abandon him? Do you think he might be lost? Is it worth putting an add in the paper and letting the local SPCA know you have a "found" cat? If he isn't lost, then I just can't fathom his previous owners turning him out after all those years. I know it happens, but I just can't fathom it...

This is a great idea! Many newspapers don't charge for a lost or found ad if it's three lines or less. I've only tried it once - and while I think the owner was found, she flaked and disappeared again. So my roomie and I found kitty girl a new home from the same ad.

Also in my area, there is a woman who keeps an online database of lost pets - pet FBI or something like that. Maybe there is something similar in your area?

Poor cat must be so confused not to have a home so late in life!

The neighbor who took him to the vet also said she had placed an ad in the paper and the pennysaver about a found cat. She also posted it on the bulletin board of the 3 apartment complexes we have nearby. So far nobody has called her and it's been a few weeks. He is so friendly that it's hard to think he wasn't loved once......unlike Cali who is still very, very, very cautious with us even after being with us all this time.

Hi,

It sounds to me like this kitty has chosen you and your family.
If he is negative for FeLV and FIV I think he has found his new home! Good luck with him. He will be grateful to you for the rest of his life

Regards,

Poor baby! Keep us posted. I hope you can either find his humans or give him a forever home!
