Darkness?

I recently aquired my first leopard gecko and am having a problem deciding where to place the cage. I know that they are nocternal, and therefore, would prefer it if they were in a room that did not have lights on at night. However, I live in a small apt. and the main room is where I would like to be able to view them, but it is also the room that has lights on most frequently at night. How disturbed would she be in that room? The alternative is a second bedroom that does not have any windows at all - so no daylight and no light at night.

put her in the bedroom and buy her a small heat lamp for a day/night cycle. the bedroom will be quieter than the living room and so she will be more at ease there. a 60 watt bulb in a small reflector hood positioned over the warm end of the tank should do it for the day/night idea. just turn the lamp on in the morning and off at night.

okay - second bedroom sounds good. One question about the heat lamp - I already have purchased a heating pad for under the tank. Should I use both? Will using the heat lamp for light make the tank too warm? I've heard you can use regular incandecent bulbs and I have a fluker's lamp. Will that work? My place stays on average about 78 degrees even in the winter.

Still use the heat pad... go for any lamp during the day, still positioned over the warm end if it doesn't cover the whole tank
