Sleepy-head kitty!

gocatgo Mar 05, 2007 09:24 PM

In my bedroom alone, I have 5 well-placed kitty beds. Two are side by side, right by my bed and under the television set. One is under my computer desk, right by my feet. Another is over by the printer stand and is rarely used for some reason. I suspect that it's because it's closed in on three sides by a dresser, wall and then the printer stand. Cats prefer having an escape route in the event that they are challenged by another cat. The last one is clear over on the other side of my room next to my bed and by the closet. That one is rarely used too.

For a week or two, Samantha will sleep in the largest bed, the one right under the TV and next to the middle size bed. Simba then sleeps in the middle size bed which is next to Samantha.

KatyKatt prefers the one under my desk, right by my feet when I'm on the computer.

And Katrina, not wanting to be different or anything, prefers sleeping/resting on my computer's tower or on the satellite dish box right above the resting place of Simba and Samantha. I think that she prefers these places because they are WARM and HIGH! She loves high places.

After a couple of weeks, they'll decide to rotate. Samantha will move down one and occupy the bed that was Simba's. Simba will move to the one under my computer desk and KatyKatt will be found sleeping in the one that was Samantha's. It seems like a mutual musical chairs with no fighting over choice sleeping spots.

When I go to bed at night, I usually always have one or two of them join me in bed. Katrina likes to sleep on me and expects me to pet her head when I'm trying to sleep with a cat on me. KatyKatt curls up under the comforter, right next to my legs and Simba sleeps on the other side of me.

Do your kitties have any special sleeping spots?

Octavia is usually the only one who sleeps with the humans, generally tucked in under the covers. Occasionally Medley or Catiya will get to sneak in and get on the foot of the bed.
Catiya prefers high spots, on top of a bunch of boxes or on the top level of the cat tree. Medley likes baskets and has a couple scattered around, one under an old kitchen cabinet so you don't know she's there unless you hear snoring. Jeopardy prefers (or maybe it's just because she's too fat) to stay on the floor or a chair. Generally, her spots on the floor are chosen according to exactly how "in the way" she can be. High traffic paths are her favorites. Of course, if anyone is doing paperwork, at least one cat has to be up to observe and cover parts of the necessary papers! Sometimes they take shifts.
They're all characters and don't know what I'd do without them

To funny about the musical beds. Crash sleeps on top of the monitor heater during the day. Mya (the dog) sleeps on her dog bed in fron of the heater (unless it's not going than she is on my bed). Gabby sleeps upstairs in the loft/bedroom on a top of a couch near the railing. In the evening Mya is up stairs with me on the bed. Crash is down stairs on Mya's bed and Gabby is usually on the couch still. Gabby will get cold and come get under the covers on the bed for a while, but than she gets mad if I move or touch her and out she goes again.
At night after I fall asleep Crash comes and sleeps on the right side of me where my pillow should be. I have to move it over so she can fit. She likes to sleep there so Gabby doesn't pick on her. Mya is still on the left side of me near my feet. Sometimes Gabby will jump on the left side of the bed and hit me in the face until I let her under the covers. She never stays long.
She usually wakes me up once a night to get under the covers and a couple more times when she is down stairs playing. She talks A LOT!!!

Boris has his tower and bed during the day. However at night he sleeps with me, curled up around my stomach as I sleep on my side. If I roll over, he just climbs over the top of me and curls up again against my stomach. He will leave around 3:30 am to nibble some food and then comes right back to his spot. He leaves when the alarm goes off.

I am a fan of the kitty beds, too. My boys will sleep on a kitty bed or folded afghan on the living room couch, on the bed, and on the futon in the computer room... They almost always use them and it cuts down on fur... They don't really prefer one particular sleeping spot over the other, it is more that they are on the kitty bed or afghan that is vacant in the room I am in at the time... They are currently behind me on the futon at this time looking just like this, except Stanley has his head burried in Pookey's neck...

Franci tends to pick various spots as long as she is in the same room with me, at night in the winter she sleeps with me, in hot weather she prefers the back of the bedroom chair

CV likes to sleep on his special window sill shelf a lot, but he also likes the recliner in the sunroom.

Star likes to sleep in the upstairs closet. She has a special mat that she lays on. She goes there when she wants privacy.
She also lays on the bed, on top of the pillow.

Quentin likes to sleep on the bed or on the living room chair. He lays at the bottom of the bed.

I think it's so sweet when cats share sleeping areas, but it's not going to happen in my house. Star & Quentin don't share things; if they happen to get too close to each other, they start fighting. Each cat prefers their own space.

Oh Ellen, I think it's so sweet too and really envy those of you whose cats cuddle with each other. I love the photos of Stanley and Pookey and wish that my cats were close like that.

The closest that mine come to sharing space is they sort of pair off. It's Simba and Katrina who hang around with each other and Simba will groom Katrina's head. Then there's Samantha and KatyKatt who are usually found together with Samantha sometimes quickly grooming KatyKatt's head. Poor little Katy seems so needy and wants to hang around with Katrina but Katrina will have no part of it. The other day, I heard what sounded like a catfight so went in to break it up. It turned out to be KatyKatt on top of Katrina, holding her down and grooming her head whether she wanted it or not. Poor struggling Katrina could only hiss since KatyKatt is my largest cat and Katrina is the smallest.

It is a blessing and a curse. I think the fact they were from the same litter and have never spent a day apart adds to why they are so close... The curse... Now that they are Seniors, I really worry when one is no longer with me what it will do to the other. Particularly because Pookey is the "needier" cat of the two and Stanley will likely go first (slow moving kidney disease/brain swelling under control for now) as Pookey is the picture of health when the vet is done with all the tests... It will hit him VERY hard not to have Stanley around... I think Stanley would do better without Pookey than Pookey would do without Stanley, but it'll probably play out that Stanley will go first.

The bed - morning, noon or night there is a cat on the bed or under it. But only Stink sleeps on Big Scary Man's side. Lizzy sometimes refuses to concede my side to me. She's given me the one eyed stare down many a night.

Stink also takes her mid-morning nap on the back of the couch for primetime bird watching. And she has a nest somewhere in the basement, but I've never found it. BSM suspects on top of the ductwork.

Annie has recently claimed a toy chest butted up against the crib. She doesn't seem to care that the baby can reach her! How relaxing can that be??
