Blood work results

JaimeMarie Mar 23, 2007 08:21 AM

Crash:
ALKP 62 u/l
ALT: 18u/l
BUN: 19 mg/dl
CREA: 1.6 mg/dl
GLU: 243 mg/dl
TP: 7.6 g/dl

Gabby
ALKP 37 u/l
CREA 2.9 mg/dl
GLU 110 mg/dl

Why did they have more results on Crash and not Gabby? Is it because Crash is 8 yrs old and Gabby is 3 yrs old. These results are from Jan 30. Crash will be 9 in August and Gabby will be 4 in May.

Your post was pretty cryptic. I am guessing you took them both in around the same time for a routine annual exam?

Did the vet indicate if anything was wrong? If the vet thought something might be wrong, they would expand the blood test more. Or are you just wondering why the vet read or showed you different results for your two cats?

If the vet read them off to you, I find with my boys, the vet will scan down the list pretty quick and not alway read all of them out-loud. She'll read anything of interest out loud...

It is also likely that now that she is 8, they ran a more Senior focused test. Usually sometime around 8 to 10, they call cats Senior. With Seniors, they tend to keep a close eye on kidney and thyroid functions on blood results.

If you notice her putting on weight, the vet will likely have you switch to Senior foods. My boys switched around age 9.

Hi Jaime,

Labs offer many different panels to choose from so chances are that more tests were ordered on Crash because of age. I don't see anything terrible here, although the mildly elevated Creatinine on Gabby tells me that more should be done. I highly recommend a urinalysis and BUN.

The Glucose being elevated on Crash is most likely just due to stress. This happens often in cats.

Thanks Tammy and Kit.

Tammy, I have a photo copied sheet of the blood work. I asked for it.

Kit,
The vet told me I should have the blood work done again in July. I'll have it done at a different vet's office since I won't be in Scaryville than. So I should ask them to check both of those things than? Or do you think I should have it done before that?
I still blame the ant trap for Gabby having high numbers.

Hi Jaime,

I think it's ok to wait until July if Gabby is acting normally. If you notice increased water comsumption and/or increased urination I would have Gabby tested ASAP, and suggest having a BUN, Creatinine, and urinalysis done. These 3 tests will give a full picture of how the kidneys are functioning.

I forgot about Gabby possibly being exposed to poison. You are right, that may be the cause.

PHKitkat
