Stanley Update (New Meds)

cyclopsgrl Jun 16, 2007 09:42 AM

So far, very good on his even further reduced steroids (two mornings on, one morning off, vice every morning) and his twice a week Epogen shots for Anemia. He has been acting pretty much "normal" thru all of this since day one, but on the new regimine, his energe level has visably increased. Understand, he still needs his multiple power naps as all cats do. Still a "little" on pins and needles that the dizziness will come back, but it hasn't shown itself since we started him in steroids back in Feb 06. Playing with the steroid dosage always makes me nervous... But, good so far.

I find I am smart occasionally. After his shot, he gets catnip and forgets all about the shot... It is the only time I give him catnip so he associates the shot with good. Works almost as well as a grape lollipop at the doctor's office or a sticker at the dentist's for we simple humans... I still oogle the stickers as I leave my dentist's office, but they never offer. Sigh.

He is almost like the Little Engine That Could - just keeps on going no matter what....Great job Stanley, I hope you continue to do so well!

You should ask - it would probably make their day to know something so simple could make an adult happy.

All the best to Stanley!

Glad that Stanley is doing so well I am sure that he is more than willing to trade a shot for some catnip.

WTG Stanley! Good idea about the catnip: it probably makes him forget about his shots. LOL.

Good job, Stanley. You would make any cat mother so proud! And good job to you too, Tammy, for the catnip idea.

I wonder if a bit of catnip would work with my cats after a stressful vet visit...hmmmm.

How wonderful to do nothing and then rest afterwards. Meow!

The catnip transports Stanley to a place only Cheech and Chong can relate to... Wide eyed and dazed... Works like a charm... Glad I only have to give the shot twice a week, and if it works as well as the vet hopes, after his 4 month check, we can probably go to once a week...
