Today Samantha is 52 years old.....

gocatgo Jul 13, 2007 03:06 PM

......in human years. Who will be the first who can tell me how many cat years she is today?

By the way, she weighs 18 1/2 lbs. A friend of Pam's said that she's so fat that you can't even see her neck. She's a big fat orange cat and I love her to pieces. She's my constant companion and follows me around like a puppy dog.

Happy Birthday, Samantha! Isn't that her "baby" picture on the main page under "Feline Health" in the ring with the her siblings?

I can't remember how old she is. She has to be somewhere between 7 and 10... Right? Dog years is 7 to 1 human. Can't remember how they calcuate cat years... Don't have a calculator handy, LOL.

Hi Tammy, you are correct, she is somewhere between 7 and 10. The "baby" picture is not Samantha but rather Samantha's kittens featuring KatyKatt in the front, the little gray one. KatyKatt is now the largest of all of the cats. She's also the biggest baby and sleeps with me with me every night. snuggled up close to my stomach and legs, purring.

That's right, KatyKatt! Wow my memory fades as I get older! I do love that picture. Let's see. I joined on the "boards" about 9 years ago... So, I'll say she is 9 or 10... Because it seems like she has been with you since I've known you...

You're right, Tammy, 9 years old yesterday. I got Samantha, my first cat ever, in September of '98 and a new computer in early '99 when I met you on the old AOL Cat Message Boards. We were on that one for about a year. Then it seems like they were going to close the old AOL message boards so in about early 2001 we all moved over to VIN which was a lot of fun because you could post pictures. It was also around this time that some of the ladies who lived in California were complaining about 'blackouts'. I couldn't even imagine what they were talking about but this, of course, turned out to be the big Enron scandal. After VIN was closed, we all moved over to these boards. BTW, they never did close the AOL Cat Message Board like they were going to. I wonder what that was all about?

I think that Stanley and Pookey were around 2 or 3 years old when we met. And Elizabeth had Romeo, Lizzie and Annie the barncat at about that time. Rose had Timothy and a couple of others then. Lou had Babba. Tracy had 4 cats, lived in Omaha, and then she died. MA had Captain Video and the little female kitty whose name I can't think of at the moment. Debra had 4 cats and lived down south somewhere, maybe Texas. Heidi had her two girls, mother and daughter cats, one was Minnie. I know that there was more but I can't think of them right now. Oh yeah, Blackcat, and her two cats that she got 'neuticals' for. That reminds me of my niece who has two male cats, age about 5 years, who were unneutered because it would 'take away their manhood'. Karen and I both talked to her about it till we were blue in the face and she finally this last month, got both of them neutered.

I'm posting a cat age conversion chart if you want to look up your cat's ages.

Here's a couple of pictures of Paula holding poor little Katrina at about that time. Katrina comes up to Paula for loving all of the time now.

I remember most of those people too. Thanks for the age chart. Although Onyx was not appreciative to find out that she is 96 years old. Foudini is 44, that is hard to believe.

Onyx, is that your gorgeous picture? You don't look like you're 92 or even 19 years old. You must be very healthy. I hope that my kitties live a long, healthy life like you. I'd like to see a picture of Foudini. At 44 (or 7 cat years), she's the same age as KatyKatt.

BTW, Tessa, Samantha is now 9 years old as of yesterday. If I were a cat then I would be 12 1/2 years old, since I'm age 65.

Here's a picture of Samantha teaching hunting skills to her kittens. She has a chipmunk hanging from her mouth. Simba is watching to hopefully pick up some hunting tips too. Katrina is the little dark kitty.

How cute, they are all lined up for school with Mommy. Yes, that is Onyx, she is 20 and that picture is a couple years old. She is 5lbs, has 3 teeth, old cat fur and arthritis and rules the house with an iron paw. She can still eat her weight in chicken especially KFC. Here is one of Foudini.

WOW, Foudini, you are gorgeous!

How many black cats do you have, Tessa? I think that I counted 21 cats altogether, plus a dog and a hamster. Your life must be very rich with the love of all of your pets!

Here's a picture of my second cat, Simba, who was given to me when Samantha was about 5 months old. He was about 1 & 1/2 years old when I got him. My friend found him hanging around on her doorstep in the cold of winter, and took him in after not being able to find his home. She took him to the vet and got all of his vacs as well as had him neutered and declawed. Then she got a new boyfriend who was allergic to cats. She had 5 cats at that time and gave all but one of them away. She and her boyfriend were both co-workers of mine.

This first picture of Simba was when he was close to two years old. He looks like he's a Himalayan. He's always been a pleasure because he's so affectionate and loves everybody.

Simba is beautiful too. He looks very snuggly. I have 6 black cats 2 SH and 4LH. Yes, you counted right 21 cats, 1 dog and a hamster. And they do give me a lot of love. Here are some of the other black cats

OOps, I miscounted. 3 short hairs and 3 long hairs. The top 3 are Salem, Marmalade and Wicca, they are littermates

The second picture is ShyRaven in the window and Spottie on the makeup table, also litter mates

The Bottom is Marmalade and Wicca on my bed....well their bed.

All cats have the same feral mother who has gone to the bridge now. All of my cats are related in some way.

Except for Buddy and Tuxie siblings who were thrown out of a moving car that kept going......the rest are former ferals from the same colony. Now all trapped and placed.

Beautiful cat family, Tessa! You're truly an angel to take in all of those kitties. I'm sure that they enrich your life, as well!

ShyRaven and Spottie are absolutely gorgeous. And it didn't take me long to figure out which one is Marmalade.

Thanks for sharing!

Happy Birthday Samantha! And many more!

Loved seeing the old pics of "Paula da Maula!" your crew were pretty secure in them selves and their place in your home to be able to take so much lovin' with grace!

****************

Tracy had 4 cats, lived in Omaha, and then she died

I've always been very grateful her boyfriend e/m so many of us to let us know she was gone. I bawled when I e/m'd him back to tell him how sorry I was for the loss. She was a lot of fun.

gocatgo Jul 16, 2007 11:33 AM

Katrina used to hide from Paula because once in her clutches, Katrina knew that she wouldn't be free for a long time. Must not have hurt her though, as now she seeks Paula out for some loving. Katrina does the 'elavator butt' thing where her butt comes up while being stroked. We all push it down but Paula just lets her do it and Katrina loves that.

I remember that Tracy had a back injury but can't remember too much more concerning her illness and eventual death. She had that one little white Persian kitty that she rescued from a kitty mill but I can't think of the cat's name or even the names of any of her other three.

Yes, Elizabeth, I agree, Tracy was a lot of fun! She's the one who came up with the name of Cats Let People Chat board, and I think, even the idea of that board itself. It was on the old VIN boards. We all thought that was a great idea for a board because then we wouldn't have to say "meow" in every post that was off topic.

Choata - he was named after a Turkish city or a turkish food or something like that. He had a lot of health problems. I remember a long thread on cat snot!

We were really busy back in those days! Seemed like we had a lot more to talk about

====

I got my first computer in '98 and jumped on the boards later that same year... Stanley and Pookey have always been some of the older cats on the board... They were 7 when I joined the AOL Cat Message Boards and met many of you. They are 16 next month. Back when we first joined, most of the cats were around 1-4 years old... I remember when Babba turned three. He has to be around 10 by now...

We must have joined the boards about the same time. Elizabeth and Rose were there at that time too. Seems like Lou came a little later. I recall that one of his first posts was about his cat, Babba, sleeping on his pillow. I wonder where he is now? Babba must be about the same age as Simba, who just turned 10 in April.

It doesn't seem like Stanley and Pookey should be 16. My, how time flies!

Lou and Babba went to help out his brother, I think who lost his house in a house fire. He said he might be gone for a long bit and he has been gone several months. Babba was fine when he left and I do believe that I remember him saying that he was 10 years old.

Both Samantha and her daughter are beautiful kitties. Of course it is just a guess but if Katykitty is Samantha's daughter then she would have to be YOUNGER than Samantha is I am gonna guess Sam at 8 years old.
