we're trying to buy meds at petmeds.com and they say they need to contact a vet for a prescription. can i just put in any vet's name i find on yahoo local search? or does the vet need to see the kitten 1st? if i have a check up at the vet, can i order as many meds as i want for as long as i want afterwards? or do i have to go see the vet reguarding each med that i want a prescription for? thanks

Hi,

Ordering prescriptions online is very much like getting them from a pharmacy. The vet would have to see the pet first and write the prescription for a limited amount. There may or may not be refills approved, depending on the drug and the particular animal.

Another option is to request the written-out prescription which can most likely be filled at any human pharmacy if it is an actual drug. I have saved money in the past by having some of my cats meds filled at Walmart.

It would not be legal for a vet to prescribe something for a pet they haven't even seen. I realize there might be ways to get around this, but it is never a good idea to do so.

Regards,
PHKitkat
