Ok, any of you who were in chat the past few nights know what I am going to say. A small gray kitten was found by hubby in our garden on Saturday. The poor thing was skinny (nothing is skinny in this house) and his eyes were almost glued shut with crusty goopy. Cleaned out the eyes with warm water/diluted amoxicillin, and the kit went to the vet last night. It is a he, and weighs a whopping 1 lb 11 oz, half of that is the food we fed him. He now is on 2 differant antibiotics, and antibiotic cream for his eyes, but he also tested postive for FIV. After some scary moments of thinking this is a death sentence, a chat with HP Kitkat cleared up that thought. She said Bradley (named after Gen. Omar Bradley) can live a long life, and may outgrow the FIV, seeing he is only 6 wks old. So please send GLOWS to little Bradley, he is a fighter just like the guy he is named after. Will send pics soon.

Ok, got a problem. Smiggle goes beserk when I hold her and she smells Bradley. Talk about the hissy hissy spit!! What gives? Kasha doesn't seem to mind, and Smig never throws a fit when she smells HRH on me...

Hi There,

Cats may not all react the same way to a newcomer. The key is usually to make all introductions slow and gradual and be sure that all animals in the house get lots of attention. It's more difficult when you have fewer animals, with my crew a newcomer is usually accepted right away.

Don't worry, time and lots of patience will help

Take care,
PHKitkat

Yep, saw that one coming. I have had 3 FIV cats in my life. They all lived and were happy and healthy for almost 5 years after diagnosis. They also lived with other cats who never got ill. Onyx lived, ate and fought with 2 of them for the first 6 years of her life and she is 20 and still going and stayed negative. So little Bradley has no death sentence and in fact may never even be ill from it. As for grumpy Smig, I am sure it is because he is new and strange, and Kasha was already there when Smig came, it was not her territory yet. Now it is and she just wants to make sure that he and you know it. She also may smell the nasty Vet and the meds and that makes her unsure. Can't wait for pictures of your new sonkit.

Well, he went for vet visit, and gained almost a pound! Now he can see, play, pounce, and do regular kitten things. One of the docs at work gave me her dog crate, so he will go in the dog crate now in the house, (was going to buy one at Wally World), until all the infections are cleared up. Kasha really doesn't bother with him sitting on hubby's lap while she watches her Red Sox. Now we still need GLOWS to get rid of nasty virus.
