Cats as comforters

purrrplej Aug 15, 2008 11:17 AM

It's amazing how cats know when someone is sick or depressed and needs comforting. Simba, my parents' cat who used to be mine, seems to have a sixth sense for things like that. When I went through a bad depression about ten years ago and could barely get out of bed, Simba would lay at the foot of the bed with me to try to cheer me up. Normally, he NEVER does that. He also lay in bed with my mom a few years ago when she went through a bad illness. Simba is usually a pretty aloof and independent kitty, so having him turn snuggly in a time of need was really unexpected. But very much appreciated.

Just thought I'd share some praise for Simba during what is his probable birth week, when he is turning 12 years old. How the time has flown by!!

Hi,

Yes, cats are absolutely amazing! Mine always know when I'm not feeling well or depressed and they comfort me like no human can. When I was very sick with hepatitis all of the cats were on the bed with me 99% of the time. It is said that there is healing power in a cat's purr and I believe it!

My cats are all rescues, but they have helped me more than I have helped them. They are my very best friends.
