Extra large cat harness?

purrrplej Aug 20, 2008 08:18 PM

Hi - does anyone know where I could find an extra large cat harness? My big boy (nearly 15 pounds, and big boned) is too big for standard cat harnesses, and I tried a dog harness, but the straps were too thick and rigid, so he could barely walk with it on. And I've heard it's better to use a harness than to use a collar, like a dog.

Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

I got Smiggle's leash at Petco. There were two sizes of leashes, and I got the one for up to 15 lbs (she wieghs in at 14 lbs). It is adjustable for the neck and all important belly area. The only thing we had to do was replace the clip that attaches the harness to the leash. It was made of plastic and one good run after a chipmuck broke it. Now we have a snap swivel from hubby's deep sea tackle box, made for fish up to 60 lbs!

The pet stores I went to had harnesses that were too small. My boy is just under 15 pounds, but he's so big-boned, the standard cat harnesses don't work.

Some people on other cat discussion sites recommended something called a "walking jacket" that is supposed to be superior to traditional harnesses - and, they come in extra-large sizes. So I ordered the largest one, online, for Murray. We'll see if he likes it. If not, well, I guess I return it and am out the shipping and handling!
