I need a new wet food

DrFunZ Apr 02, 2009 05:38 PM

HI All, long time no chat - been busy.

My dear Luna is still adorable at 7 years old. I have her on Wellness Wet and I heard that a new company bought Wellness and the product is becoming inferior. But the one change I really notice is that it is now $1.50 per can!!! I cannot afford $1.50 per can and need to find something good that is not that expensive but that is available in at least pet stores. I tried Chicken Soup because it has good stuff in it and was a better price, but Luna positively hated it. (She ate it but it was drudgery.) For her crunchies she has Science Diet original mixed with Purina Healthy Weight. She has a tendency to eat when she cannot find me in the house and whenever she gets scared or does something stupid like fall off the table.

So, does anyone have a suggestion for my girl. Yes, I love her but I have to cut back on everything right now.

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

These are tough times so I understand about your having to cut down on what you spend for cat food. I have quite a challenge with my 8 cats!

What I recommend is that you visit a large chain pet store, such as Petco or Petsmart, read labels and check prices. You want to feed something that has a form of protein as the first ingredient and a minimum of carbs. Some of the very cheapest foods contain a lot of corn, which is not very nutritious for cats. Check out store brands also when you are comparing labels. You may find something that is decent quality but costs less than the major national brands. For example, Petsmart, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's all carry their own brands of pet foods.

Good luck and please let us know how the food search goes!

Regards,
PHKitkat

Do you mind buying online? I buy from http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/ You can buy a single can or more (and good dry food too!).

That way you aren't stuck with a bunch of food if your cat does not like it. They DO charge a shipping cost but it is not much more than the price of gas you will use to drive to the pet store.
