Noisy cat is eating everything in sight!

vwagner1 Nov 11, 2003 12:36 PM

I have 2 major problems with my sphynx cat. First of all she never stops meowing and making wierd noises. It gets very irritating at night. I feel guilty if I keep her locked up in another room. She does eventually quiet down and sleep but as soon as she is up the constant noise starts again. Another thing is she steals our food and eats anything. I cannot keep her in the kitchen while I am cooking or my family is eating. She is sooo fast! She stole pizza right out of my hand and ran off. I couldn't find her-she chooses then to be quiet! I swear she is really a dog! She even sticks her head in the disposal to pull out food so I have to make sure I turn it on after I shove food down. She always wants to be fed. She meows and stares at her food bowl. I already feed her about 2/3 cup and she is only 6 lbs. but a little hefty for her size. Took her to the vet-no worms or anything. I have never heard of a cat acting like this. She is driving me crazy!! She is about 3 yrs. old and I have had her about 4 months. Please help!!

You may want to ask the vet about increasing the amount of food you feed her. Also try switching to a premium food.

She may be bored and compensating for it with the noise and the eating. If you can't swing a companion cat for her, be sure that she gets lots of playtime with you - at least 20 minutes a day. You might want to schedule playtime right before bedtime to tire her out.

Try a Comfort Zone plug in too. These are supposed to help calm a cat.

Thanks for the advice! The vet told me she was a little chubby and to not go over 2/3 cup a day. Should I feed more? I am feeding Iams because she has loose stools on anything else. I tried Natural Balance and Natural Choice. I think her noise is mostly due to wanting to eat-constantly. I can live with the noise but her stealing food is aggravating as I have 2 little kids and 2 greyhounds who don't always put food away. Mia-the cat actually steals the dogs bones too-real beef and turkey bones. What if I gave her a bone to chew on like a turkey neck? Would that be okay for her?
