I need help traveling with a stressed cat

nightowlette Dec 18, 2003 01:53 PM

In a couple weeks I need to go on an hour and half long drive with my cat, however she hates traveling and I feel bad when I have to travel with her. I've already tried helping her adjust to the carrier, I leave it out for explore and sleep in if she chooses, but it doesnt help when we have to travel. She's a very finicky and affectionate cat, but because she doesn't like any sort of cat treats I also know that I can't bribe her. Everytime I have to travel with her she meows, screams, and cries the entire time, which in turn stresses me out because I feel bad for her. The last I had to travel with her it was so bad that she through up. If anyone has any suggestions to help the situation it would be appriciated. Thank you

Poor kitty! You might try spritzing a little Feliway on some of the bars of the carrier. This may help calm her.

Usually tranquilizing a cat is not recommended because it is not always predictable how a cat will react. However, in your cat's case, you might wish to consult your veterinarian about something that might take the edge off the fear of traveling.

Good luck to you and have a safe journey.
