Cat carriers

My wife and I moving from SF to Italy soon and we'll be flying on US Airways with our two cats. They do not allow cats in the cabin on transatlantic flights, so we'll have to check them in. We scheduled the flight so it's two overnight trips (a stop in Philadelphia), so we can at least pick them up in Philadelphia and feed them and let them do their thing. We wanted to fly United/Lufthansa but the cat's rabies shots were within 30 days and would not comply with Germany's rules - we called the German consulate to verify. We realize it's not the best situation but we're reading as much literature to make the trip as smooth and uneventful as possible. The one thing I can't find on any site is any recommendations on pet carriers. I'm wondering whether anyone has a recommendation for a cat carrier. Or does not recommend one. Thanks.

I have been looking into the same thing and found that Sherpa bags are the answer.

They are flexible and will fit under the seat in the cabin. Then you can at least be with your cat and talk to him. I actually got a backpack to use when I travel and have to carry computers and rolling suitcases.

Maybe you already left for your trip. Hope this helps.
