Boy, my cat can hold a GRUDGE!!

Ravyn11 Feb 18, 2004 11:40 AM

I'm furmom to three...and now four...kitties. Athena is my oldest at four years old. I have a brother/sister pair about six months old I got from the shelter a couple of months ago, Oliver and Min. And then last week, I got a 'tuxedo tortishell' from a rescue. She's about nine months to a year old.

Anyway, the first night the new girl, Tsali, was home, I had the other cats shut up to let her look around the house. Anyway, a few hours later I forgot and silly me let Oliver and Min out of the bathroom.

Now, Min is the sweetest thing you have ever seen in your life. She loves EVERYONE, on sight, no questions asked. So she spotted Tsali and got all excited about the new friend, and ran over to greet her.

Tsali, understandably, was defensive, and swatted Min, scaring the poor little girl to her hidey spot under the sofa.

Well, since then, Tsali has settled in. She loves Oliver, and he loves her. Athena and Tsali basically just ignore each other...which, if you knew Athena and other cats, is a miracle. She had a FIT when Oliver and Min first came in, and is just now getting friendly toward them.

Tsali is even getting on with the dog, who she was terrified of at first. However, she keeps trying to make friends with Min, but Min is having NONE of it! Whenever Tsali gets within four feet of her she will yowl and arch and hiss and you'd think she was being murdered. All because of one surprised swat Tsali gave her when they first met

She's as sweet as pie but MAN, she NEVER forgets an insult!

It is amazing how long a cat can remember a negative experience like this. You might want to try a Comfort Zone plug-in with Feliway and see if that relaxes your cat a bit and gets her back into a friendly mood!

My cat Crash held a grudge on me for 3 or 4 months after I brought Gabby home. She has now finally started playing with Gabby. Gabby came home in June.
