MEOWing problem

CDLPorsche Feb 29, 2004 01:27 PM

I have two cats, and one of them just meows all the time. She can be sittin around and when you even look at her or start petting her she just meows. Its not like she needs something or what i can't really figure it out. We have had her for about three years now and she always does it. The problem is that it is very annoying when you are just standing around and she just sit there and meows all the time. Is there any way to make her stop doing this all the time?

You might try to train her. Give her a treat for seconds/minutes of silence and no treat for meowing. Prolong the silence time slowly. Have you ever tried clicker training? That may do the trick. The cat will know that when he hears the click he has done something right and a treat is coming his way soon. If you are not familiar with clicker training, there are books on the subject (e.g. Karen Pryor), or you could search the internet.

Good luck !

Anne has given some good advice here - you need to ignore the meowing and give her a treat for quiet.

You probably just have a talker - some cats are very vocal. I had one that talked all the time - when I'd talk on the phone people would hear her and ask if I had a baby!
