I need help!

foryouonly Jun 19, 2004 12:31 PM

Ok. I'm going on a trip to CA for about a week and I can't afford a pet sitter for my cat. So basically I have 3 choices. Take her with us to CA which I desperately want to but I'm afraid of her health since she'll be stuck with all of the luggage. Then there is having my friend petsit. She's passionate about animals like I am but I'm afraid her parents won't let a cat in the house for a week. If her mother does not allow this, there is only the choice of leaving Lily (my cat) at home and have my same friend check up on her every few days and make sure that she has plenty of food and water. I'm giving her my spare key to the house and make sure that she locks the house after she leaves. Which is the best decision? I need a little help!

Having your friend come check on the cat is a good idea, but really should be done at least every day. Actually the cat will be happier in her own home. Is it possible that your friend could live in your home while you are gone? If she's too young, that's understandable, but that might be an option you can consider too.

She's 18 now but I don't think she really feels comfortable staying at our house. We'll only be gone for maybe about a week or a week and a half. Should I have her check up on her everyday then? Would that be best? Because I've heard that if you take a cat with you when you travel (on flight, because we're flying) that sometimes a cat can die O_o I really don't want to take any chances. But would that be my best option is to have her stay at home and have my friend check up on her everyday?

Definitely the cat will be better off at home than flying! Just be sure your friend comes every day. Also if your friend can take some time to play with the cat and talk to her daily - maybe she could even stay a couple of hours and watch a video every few days so the cat will know someone is there!
