Suicidal Cat

animal_lover Aug 04, 2004 07:47 AM

My cat already has a lot of problems. Now to top all these problems off, she has started attacking very large dogs and even people going out for a walk. Just last week, she almost scratched a baby that was hobbling over to her. If I hadn't of told the german parents that the cat is very dangerous, their kid would be in the hospital still, or at least with many stitches. I am thinking about getting her euthanised now, there is just no way around it anymore.

That is to bad. Is she an indoor/outdoor kitty? If so is there a way you can keep her inside only?

I'm so sorry you are having such a hardt time with your cat. But have you talked to your vet about antianxiety medication like Burspur or Prozak? You really shouldn't euthanize the cat until all options have been tried. In the least, if you really cannot find a solution that works for you, find the cat a new home. Even if you have to take it to a shelter, but I suggest contacting some rescue organizations to see if they can find a home suitable for this kitty that can handle this type of situation.
I'm sorry if this offends you, but MA is right. Pets are not disposable and you do not have the right to put them down unless ALL other options have been tried and discounted.

It was wrong of me even to say I would put her down. I know that I would rather die than kill my kitty. I'll ask my mom to make an appointment for the vet, or to at least get those drops for the ears to calm her down. My cat hates vets, and the vets hate her. At my kittys last vet visit, she behaved so badly that my mom was crying, right there in front of everybody. The vets ended up having to use a net, and then twisting it until it was sooo tight around the cat that it was too painful to me. I think kitty is behaving so badly at the vets because she is scared. I say this becasue when the vets took the net off, there was cat crap in the net. The vets said not to come back any time soon. I can't blame them, they had cuts all over their arms and everything.

That'a horrible! Your vet should know better how to handle an animal like this. Make an appointment, and explain that your cat is extremely aggressive and do they have anything to give her to calm her down. Make arrangements to pick it up the day before the appointment so you can give it to her an hour or so before you leave the house. My vet does this, since my cat is agressive at the vets, but I don't know what it's called. Sure does do the trick though!

Oh geez, I agree with Destany. First it sounds like she could do with some anti-anxiety medication like Buspar or Prozac and secondly...what a terrible vet. Try taking her to a vet that will try to help her. Good luck with her. Please don't put her down.

I really hope you haven't put your cat down yet. Have you tried an Animal Communicator? Sometimes they can find things that no one else can figure out.

I just started a forum where you might post your problem (under non-communicators) and get students to talk to your cat. It is really new, so there aren't many posts there yet. But there is also a link to a list of animal communicators, as well. You can find that in the notice to non-communicators under 'messages from bigcaat.'

Maybe you could see if one of the students would help you first, and if it works, great. If not, then maybe you could find a professional from the list, or ask on that board for a referral.

I really hope this helps. Kitty deserves for you to exaust all options. Maybe she's just upset or acting out for some reason that she can tell someone about. Anyway, the link is: http://www.bigcaat.com/animalcommunication

Best,
Caat
