Moving to Cali. Flying or driving?

foryouonly Aug 09, 2004 10:37 PM

I haven't decided yet if I will be flying or driving but I am considering flying because it is a lot faster. The thing is I've heard stories of cats being put in with the luggage and end up being killed because of the heavy baggage that shifts. However I flying to California a couple of years ago and noticed a woman carrying a pet with her on the plane. Of course it was it those pet carriers and I felt a lot comfortable having my kitty close to me while we fly and not have her being stuck inside a baggage holder all by herself. Plus Another problem is that the house that we might be staying at for awhile (my cousin's) has an outdoor cat and my aunt won't let that cat in the house so I don't think she will let Lily in the house as well. We're staying over there for maybe about a week to look at some houses. Then Again I could stay at a hotel that allows cats.

Some airlines do allow cats as carry-ons, but they differ in policy. Also if any passenger objects you will have to put the cat into the baggage area or not fly.

I am very concerned about your aunt's house, however. There is no way you cannot keep the cat outside when you get there - she will run away as soon as she is freed.

Could you leave the cat behind with a sitter or close friend to come visit her daily and then get her once you are settled? This would be the best option.

I would drive it at all possible. Just make sure to have your cat with tags. Also, maybe you could find an inexpensive kennel to board your cat in while looking for housing.

Good luck on your trip.
