My dangerous cat/strangers don't mix

animal_lover Sep 23, 2004 08:45 AM

We will be moving from Germany back to the states in three months. The problem is my cat, who many of you know. My cat is still dangerous even if she is inside of a carrying case. She jump around, hisses and claws at you if you come near, or try to pick up the carrying case. I don't want anybody handling her at the airport to get hurt, but I don't want them abusing my cat either. Are their pills that can be given to her, or an injection, that will make her fall asleep for the duration of the trip? Or is it possible for me to take her with me and have her under my seat on the plane? I really need help now. If I don't figure something out, my cat will have to stay behind.

This is something that you probably should discuss with your vet. Ordinarily tranquilizers for cats are not recommended for long trips because they are unreliable. However, there may be something that can be done.

Also you should have a long talk with the airlines. If warned ahead of time, special handling can be requested. Also you might be able to take the cat as a carry on, although with overseas flights this might not be feasible.
