8 week old kitten is now biting... alot

jenniferseelye Oct 11, 2004 11:56 PM

We recently started fostering kittens through the local humane society. I have not yet asked about this.

We have had FizzGig since he was 4 weeks old (he arrived at the shelter when he was 3 weeks). He originally had a buddy 1 week younger (buddy didn't make it). We then fostered 3 strays. Then another stray. FizzGig was great through all this. Now he has been an only pet for a little over a week and he has become aggressive, biting alot.

We plan to adopt FizzGig but do not like this new biting trend. We have tried to pick him up by the scruff say no then set him down on the floor. He continues. We have not tried bitter apple or anything like that yet. Any suggestions?

Here is a link of FizzGig (left) with his first buddy:

Thanks for your suggestions!

This is normal behavior for a kitten - especially one who has lost his playmates and is the only kitty!

First, try some different kinds of toys and see if there is a texture that he prefers to bite and chew on. Be sure to play with him a lot. Sometimes a feathered cat wand will really help tame the aggression.

When he bites, yell "ouch" in as high pitched and loud a voice as possible. This mimics the cry a kitten makes when he's had enough rough play and most kittens will back off.
