Nightime Behavior...

sauce04 Nov 05, 2004 12:34 PM

I have a 4 year old siamese. She is an adorable girl and I love her to death. She has a tendency to sleep during the day and act up at night. We have another cat for her to play with, but instead, she'd rather jump and climb on us while we're trying to sleep. She claws at the curtains and the bed. We'd gotten her a scratch post but she won't use it. We've tried the rattle-can and squirt-bottle but nothing helps... Please help

This is a hard one. You have already done so much to stop this behavior! Is the cat hungry at this time? I've found that if I just drag myself up, dump food in the dish and go back to bed that my cat shuts up.

Try playing with the cat vigorously before bedtime. Also try putting her in a time out area when she disturbs you. Yes, she will howl, but if she doesn't get attention she will probably stop. It will be hard at first, but ignoring her totally might be the key to a good night's sleep.

We put our four yr old cat and our eight yr old cat in the garage for the night. They are real pests if we don't. The garage is warm and it has their litter box and a water dish. They actually seem to like it out there. They usually come running when we open that door. Our garage is fairly large. It has two bays and an upstairs. The upstairs is suppose to be a game room. But it has never been finished. So now it's a storage area and cat playroom.
