One Month Vacation - take the 2 kitties or leave them home with care givers?

lisamiles Mar 01, 2005 06:05 PM

I am a relatively new cat owner. I have 2 cats, a male 2 years old & a female 9 months old - these are my first kitties. They get along very well together. This June, we have rented a house in the Florida Keys for the entire month! While I am quite excited about the vacation, I am concerned as to what to do with the cats. Since it is a long trip, is it better to bring the cats with us? It will be a long drive, almost 24 hours. Or, is it better to leave them home with someone checking on them daily? I am so worried about this situation, I almost do not want to go away. They are both very loving & sleep near me every night. I do not want to traumatize them.
Help - what do I do?
Thanks so much in advance for your guidance!

Check out the link below for more on the topic. If you have a reliable sitter, home is probably best.

Cats Vote To Stay Home

I think leaving your cats home would be the least stressful on them. Cats don't like change. Having someone come play, scoop, and feed daily would probably be the best idea.

Since you're cats are not kittens, 2 years old if I remember right and they are not usto traveling I too agree they would be less stressed to stay home. Maybe you're sitter can move in for the month that way they have a snuggle buddy.

We travel with ours but we have been doing that since they were kittens. And they are very usto the car & changing surroundings since we started young. Our trips are 9-10 hour drives which I think any longer I would with my cats reconsider traveling with them for comfort reasons for them.

Good Luck
