Has anyone ever been able to totally train thier cat not to scratch the furniture?

My cat tore up my couch when I first got him 3 yrs ago. I used a spray bottle, and bought some of that cat deterant spray, he hasn't scratched any of my furniture since.

Thanks! I just ordered some NO SCRATCH and hope between all the scratch pads, water bottles and NO SCRATCH it will do the trick.

Good luck! I would buy some felineway too. It's like a glade plugin that seems to help with any behavioral problems a cat has.
