Wild kittens

joyrider89 May 11, 2005 03:06 AM

Hii, my mum rescued a pair of kittens about 5 days ago and we brought them to the vet and are currently in kept in a large 3 storey cat cage at home. However THEY ARE WILD !!!!! i mean when you approach them they hiss at you and they scratched my mum too ! till it bleed ! They are roughly about 3-4 months old, and had not been handled by humans till my mum got them, what else can we do to sort of " tame " them ? they are kinda ferocious !

Once you've made sure they've had their shots and a clean bill of health, it will take A LOT of patience to socialize them. They are young enough to still be socialized. Your best bet is to just let be aware of your presence. Feed them, pay attention to them inthe cage and give them a couple of weeks to become familiar with the sounds and scents of your home. Remember, they are totally stressed right now because everything is unfamiliar to them and they have not made your home thier territory yet. Once they get familiar with thier surroundings and the humans that are there, allow them out and try treats to get them to come to you, but don't handle them until THEY are comfortable with it. I suggest wearign long sleeves until they get comfortable. Search online for cat socialization suggestions. Cats that start out feral will bodn with you if you allow them thier time and space.

This sounds totally silly I know but read them children's books. It will help them get used to your scent and the sound of your voice. Don't look at them just read. Once in a while you can toss them a cat treat.
