litter mates still fighting

janome Jan 08, 2006 04:55 PM

smokey has been gone 10 weeks now. i would think the other cats would be ok by now. but our 2 litter mates still fight. although i don't think its from smokey being gone. jazz an jaffa are litter mates we adopted when they were @8weeks old. they will be 4 years old in march.
when jaffa was sick that one time jazz freaked out when she came home. they seemed to have gotten used to each other but now again lately they are at it again. jazz just screams at the sight of jaffa. i am ready to kick jazz out side and keep her out side. but i do love her to much to do that. she is very affectionate. she just does not tollerate jaffa.

i don't know if its still me that is making them freak at each other or what. i am still have problems with smokeys loss and now i'm having health problems and everything irratates me. with the cats not getting along its really getting to me. is there ANYTHING else we can do to get them to get along. when jaffa came home from the vets a few months ago we tried to keep them seperated as much as we could and rub towel on both so they would smell alike. i just don't know what else we can do so they will like each other. i hate to think they will be like this for 20 years if they live that long like smokey did.

does anyone have advise? thanks

You might want to talk with your vet about the possibility of an anti-anxiety medication. Sometimes these can work wonders. The cats "unlearn" to be afraid and tense around each other and then the meds can be gradually withdrawn.

Take care!

i was wondering the same thing about some kind of anti meds. it would be jazzy that would need them. i tried them for myself with my grief of loosing mokie but they were making me sick so stoped taking them. if i ever get enough funds so i can take them in for checkups i can ask my vet about them. i haven't been to the vet since having smokey put to sleep so don't know how that is going to be for me when i do go.
