Adopted cat..i need help!

shayes Mar 15, 2006 10:23 AM

We have a 6 month old kitten who has tons and tons of energy. During the day while we were at work, he would get himself into quite a bit of trouble, so we decided to get him a playmate. We went to the pound and after looking at many cats, we found one we all loved. She's sweet, uses the litter box, good with my kids! We all love her except for one thing....she HOWLS/MEOWS all night long! She has food and water, a fresh litter box, free roam of the house......and she's keeping us all up at night. What can i do? We want to keep her, but try living with a child with ADHD whos grouchy already in the morning, and add lack of sleep to it?
I need help!

Sheila how old is she.I guess there could be a lot of reason but breaking her of it is what has to be done.
Have you tried having her sleep with one of you.I know Babba once in awhile will come in and want me out of bed to keep him company so i go set in my chair and he lays by my feet and goes to sleep. Most of the time he sleeps in bed with me.
Maybe theres something in her past that scares her at night.
GOOD LUCK Sheila and maybe someone else can help you more.

She probably just needs some time to get accustomed to your house. My kitty, Princess Spooky, used to meowl like that after I adopted her. It took about a month for her to get used to the house at night and after that, she stopped. I haven't heard her do it since. Your baby just needs some time to settle in and get used to your house at night. It's a lot scarier when it's dark and you're alone, ya know?

She may need a trip to the vet in case she is in heat or has an underlying medical issue.
Otherwise, she just may need time to feel that she is in a safe and stable place and that she is not going to go back to a life of uncertainty and no permanent home. Cat can be very insecure and soem take a lot of love and patience to make them feel safe, while others adapt quickly.
