I just got a Fluval 304 and am trying to set it up. Is there an easier way to attached the darn hoses to the input & output sides of the canister? My knuckles are literally bloody from trying to do this!

You have my sympathies. This what why I personally despise Fluvals. They really filter magnificently but I can't stand servicing them.
I switched over to a FILSTAR XP canister filter (alot of good I suppose this info does for you at this point) and I must say it was worthi it!! It literally takes a second to disconnect it and 10-15 minutes to clean it and another minute to reconnect and start up again!! Can't say enough good things about it!
Good luck. Fluvals do a great job and in time you will get the knack of getting hooked up with out too much pain and suffering.

Thanks, Steve. I eventually did figure it out. The instructions failed to mention when you needed to apply the hex nuts. It's working, it's quiet, and the water sparkles. Much, much better than the bio-wheel. "Tortuga" is enjoying the whirlpool like atmosphere (I think).
Can't knock the filter in terms of it's filtration ability it is tops. I just short circuited everytime I cleaned mine. So frustrating I could scream.
Your water will stay real clear with it though.
