Cat eating Human food

jeanette74 Mar 31, 2006 04:05 PM

My cat is 13 years old and in the past year has began to want human food more and more-He has gotten rather thin-he will swat at you to get a piece of what you have or even try to pull the plate off the table when you turn around-any adviceHe goes in the garbage often also. comments/advice welcome

Your kitty is officially a "senior cat". Although he has probably been a healthy guy, a vet check is in order here. Losing weight is always a concern, and craving human food to the degree you are saying indicates there may be a medical problem. Since your "senior" kitty is actually very young, chances are your vet can diagnose and help you treat any problem.

Good luck and best wishes to you!

well i can tell you about my mokie. she loved anything i ate. as she got older (she lived to be 22) she seems more hungrier so would eat whatever. until her last days then she stoped eating. come to find out she was hyperthyroid. i agree...your baby need to get some lab work to see whats going on.
IF that is what's going on its treatable. i had to give smokey some ointment in her ear. it controled her thyroid very well. just my exp.

Jeanette Madame Alto is right.First stop the Vet.
Cats are different and eating from the table is normal. One thing i do and it works perfect for Babba is have dry food available 24-7 and it has worked great. He gets a Breakfast and Dinner of canned cat food but always has his dry food to eat if he wants to snack.Try it and see what happens.
