Household safe cat repellent???

froggz37 Jun 13, 2006 11:14 AM

I need to find a way to keep my kitten (8 months) out of my plants. Its only two plants she gets into, both being arboricolas. She absolutely loves digging in them, and will go to the extent of getting atop the refridgerator to get at them. She isnt using them as a restroom, the only time she's done that was when I had an aquarium on the floor with compressed coconut fiber substrate and was growing garden seedlings. I need SOMETHING though that can be put near the plants, won't harm cats or plants and will keep my kitten from getting into them.

Hi There,

I think you will find this site helpful:

Or, if you want to try something cheap and simple, you can try putting some cut citrus fruit up where the plants are. Most cats hate citrus and won't come too close.

Take care,

Thanks, those will definitly help. I'll have to try the fruit idea first though lol. A friend tried convincing me to use pepper, but its a kitten, and if she goes bouncing in there without caution and gets it in her eyes, nose or mouth that would hurt terribly. Citrus sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

You can also try Bitter Green Apple spray. Spray it on a couple of cotton balls and place on top of the dirt around the plants. You should be able to find this at any pet store, even Target and Meijers stores and it is very inexpensice. Usually orange and lime rinds will do the trick though!
