Meowing me crazy!

canadaone Aug 08, 2007 01:25 PM

Hi
I have a cat who is a real attention seeker. She gets on and off the bed five or six times a night, meow meow every time and it interfers with my sleep. I can't close my bedroom door in summer, as it interfers with the air conditioning. Now, I have trained her not to be on the bed when I am by taking her off every time she tries when I am in it. But she has increased her demand for attention by meowing and meowing every time she sees me. i have tried squirting her with a plant mister, but this does not seem to work. Any suggestions on dealing with a very vocal attention seeker? I think she would prefer attention rather than foo this one.I don't mind her sitting in my lap of whatever, but the cosntant meowing is driving me crazy!

Hi There,

I think that this is more of your cat's personality than a behavioral issue. I live with 11 cats, and they are all different----some are very quiet, some talk part of the time and some talk very often. In my case I just accept the way they are and I am fine with it. Some want more attention and others want less.

There isn't much you can do to change what is natural for your cat. Spraying a cat with water in my opinion should never be done to try and discourage a cat from seeking attention. It's a good thing that she wants a lot of attention.

You can try playing with your kitty at night in hopes of tiring her out so she sleeps, an interactive toy would be ideal. Giving her some food at bedtime might also quiet her down a bit, but if you really can't handle her seeking attention, especially at night, you will just have to confine her in another room.

Regards,
PHKitkat
