Other than ceadar anything else bad? I know aspen is most popular but is pine ok, I have soem and want to put it to use.

No pine. It, too, contains harmful phenols. What do you think they make turpentine out of?

For loose-litter substrate, I use cypress mulch, but I vastly prefer plain white paper towels with plenty of hideboxes so the snake can feel hidden. That's just my two cents.

If you use a loose substrate always, always, feed in a separate container to avoid ingestion of loose matter.
