Who's the boss: You or your cat?

PHCurious Jul 29, 2003 10:18 AM

Simple question. Who's really the boss in your home? In what ways?

Without a doubt Boris. Discipline is completely out the window. When I get to the "BOOORRIS" stage, he will flop down on the floor, roll over on his belly, feet straight up in the air, and cock that little head and look up at me, oh so innocently as if to say "Who me??, What did I do???". By this time, I can't help but laugh-yep, he has it down pat!

Voodoo is definitely the boss. She has more legs (4) than anyone else in the house and she knows it!

LOL! I think that picture shows it all. Voodoo wins.
I assume Voodoo immediately takes care of any 8-legged spiders who find their way into your house.

Fluffy's the same way. As soon as I say, "No, Fluf," she rolls over and gives me that look. You know, that "I'm a perfect little angel; I didn't do anything wrong" look.

MOL ... I bet Kiko and Lightning are ROFM that you even ASKED the question. Goalie wakes me up at daybreak by standing on the pillow and issuing her sweet "Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" (she doesn't say meow) until I wake up and serve breakfast. And if I stay on the puter too late at night, she lies on the bed (the human-sized cat bed, that is!)and gives me the "eye" ... Hey, human, shut it down and go to bed! Faye

ITS ME ITS ME --- Well actually probably not, since both Ash and Zade are bigger than me. Well Zade thinks she is the boss but the reality is that Ash is. He just quietly rules the whole house!

I'm surprised. I thought for sure Zade would be the boss in your house!

With 6 cats and 4 dogs (3 of them young Yorkies!) in the house, the boss certainly isn't me!

Of all the cats, I'd have to say that Simba (who is deaf) is the real boss. And he really has me going lately. He's supposed to eat special food since he went into kidney failure at the beginning of the year. (He went from 16 lbs down to 9 lbs, but has rebounded back to 13 lbs now.)

I was running out of his favorite minced hache K/D, so I had to feed him some NF (it's rather dry) until I could get to the vet's to buy a case of the K/D. As soon as he finished off the 2nd can of NF, I opened a can of the minced hache K/D, and he turned up his nose at it! So I fed him the last can I had of NF and went to the vet and bought a case of NF. Guess what! He then turned his nose up at the NF! Grrrrrrr.

After 2 more refusals of the K/D, I divided it up into bowls and gave it to the other cats, who normally eat the prescription CD/S dry food that Tornado has to eat. After another 2 refusals of the NF, I divided it up for the other cats. This time, they didn't finish it all off, and Simba finally ate the leftovers.

Now I wonder what will happen at the next feeding. ... sigh ...

Anyone who comes in to my house can tell right away that the CATS are the boss. My husband thinks he is, but the cats are the true bosses. We wake up when they want us to & we feed them when THEY want us too. They have any toy that they want, they get our attention when they want it and they have the absolute run of the house. It belongs to them, no if ands or buts about it. My personal items are all hidden away so that the cats have all the room they need to jump on tables, chairs, counters, appliance...wherever they want to go. It's THEIR house I tell you! LOL.

I am the boss in my house.

My cats are clean and neat. They sit purrectly still and hold their paws out for me one by one so that I can clip and file and clear coat their claws.

They eat what I tell them to eat and when and where I tell them to eat it. With not a morsel out of place.

They never leave clumps of fur laying about....Morgan eats them.

And Dextuh has been known to clean his own litterpan.

They know that I run a tight ship and are grateful to be a part of it.

Dextuh.....GET OFF my Head!

Luff,
Robyn

DOH!!! I thought you were going to be the first person to admit that you are actually the boss.

OK then, it will be me. Yes, I'm saying it. I am the boss of this house. (Actually DH and I are co-bosses, but that's another story.) As far as the cats are concerned, I'm the boss. I make the rules. I regulate when and how much they can eat. (Well, the one who's on a diet gets regulated.) I don't allow them into certain rooms where they could get hurt. I'm the one who decides what is and is not allowed to be scratched upon. Actually, I'm more like "mom" than "boss" whereas my cats are like teenagers always trying to steal the car keys and thinking I didn't notice that they broke curfew yet again.

Just because I'm boss doesn't mean my kitties always obey. )) Neither does it mean I'm a tyrant. As much as I can, I let them think they are boss. Whenever possible, I give them choices so they can make up their own minds and behave as they please. But if they were really boss, I can assure you, they'd never go to the vet, never eat diet prescription food, never worry about scratching up the couches, etc..

Go ahead and laugh now. I can take it. Thick fur....
