one person cat

JaimeMarie Jun 19, 2004 08:56 AM

I think we already had this discussion but. Gabby is such a one person cat. My mom says she can't stand Gabby. She is not friendly, she won't let any one touch her..... So I get home go up stairs yesterday Gabby comes running. I pick her up and it's instant purr. She pressed her head to my neck and purred and purred. Until we heard a noise in the closet. I put her down and she puffed all up and went to investigate. So funny.
Anyay I guess Gabs won't let Sarah, Mom or Dad touch her. I find it so strange. Since I only lived there from the end of June to September with her. So she has lived there with them for 9 to 10 months with them only. Do you think a cat some cats bond for live with only one person?

Definitely cats will bond with only one or two people. CV seems to be more "mine" than DH's, although he sits on his lap and they have their "guy" cuddle sessions. But CV hides from everyone else.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!

Oh I agree too that they bond stronger sometimes with one person. I'm wondering if its a level of trust & security they develop early on. Seems once that bond is there it only gets stronger of the years and you would think that time would open the bond to others in the same household but I have seen where it gets so strong they really don't want anything to do with anyone else at anytime.

Like Gabby you just see nothing but a purring loving kitty and the rest of the house sees something else which makes them not like Gabby and then you wonder if Gabby senses that and withdraws even more.

Thinking like a cat is surely harder that thinking like a dog!
Gotta luv'em

haha yes and I think every cat thinks differently. They don't like Crash all that much either. But she forces them to pet her. She will jump up and plop herself right into any of their laps. The only one that likes to pet her is my Dad. but she will take any one in the house (my mom, Sarah, or a couple of Sarah's friends). Strangers she will hide from.

I think it's true that cats (and other animals) will have a stronger bond with some people and a weaker bond with others.

It probably has to do with the way you treat Gabby. I think animals can tell people apart based on how they treat them/act towards them and sense who likes them and who doesn't.

If the rest of your family isn't too fond of her because she hasn't been all that friendly with them, chances are they're not continuing to create a bond with with her... but you are. It might not be how much time you spend together, but the quality of that time.

That is true. I play kitty olympics with her and cuddle with her when I am home. But I also clip her toenails which she hates!!!! But I guess she has to take the good with the bad. haha. And I empty the litter boxes when I'm home. No one else does. So I put five down. She is the only one that uses them in the summer thank goodness.

Absolutly....But cats are very intelligent to.If there is more then one human in the household they will give everybody a job to make there lives comfortable. If there was ever a one person cat its got to be Babba.Of course me and him is the family and of course we have friends come over some times and some of them he likes and some he won't go near.
Babba will stay as close to me as possible and even when i got to the bathroom he sits by the door untl i come out.Yes me and him is bonded until death do us part.Animals are very loyal to the person they pick to be bonded with but some will go to other humans for certain things if its just for a hug.
Cats like to live like a God and they will give you there love loyalty to achieve this.Lets face it our cats are spoiled and there reward to us is there love and there loyalty.I'll accept that.

Lou,
Thanks for the post. I'm a little slow I missed it LOL.
Anyway you and Babba are the most bonded cat/human I know LOL. I don't think I know any one else who brings their cat camping.
