My kitten adores me!

phunkeyphish Jul 05, 2004 10:36 AM

The first night I had the kitten it slept curled up cradled in my arms deeply purring until I fell asleep, but when I woke up the next morning Floyd was snoozing under my chair. The next night he didn't sleep with me, but the third night I fell asleep without him but woke up in the morning with him practically under my thigh. It made me so happy that he decided to sleep with me. Also, Floyd follows me around everywhere, and likes to sleep on my lap. Growing up I had a family cat that bonded to my mother. However, it was still very independent once it got older. Will my kitten maintain a similar behavior of following me, and sleeping with me, as it ages? Thanks.

It totally depends on the cat. My Crash sleeps on my pillow all most every night, except if she is mad at me. Gabby used to sleep across my neck as a kitten. Now that she is older she won't sleep with me at all. Moxie would cuddle as a kitten but as an adult she would rather just be next to us but not let us touch her. Every cat has a different personality. So enjoy it will he is doing it.

It could be that your kitten will be as clingy as he is now - like Jaimie said it all depends on the cat! My hunka burning love can't spend the night without some bed time with me! He does drift off sometime in the middle of the night to check out the cat food dish, however. Some things are VERY important!

I'm going through the same thing... my 12 week old kitten follows me around and sleeps on the windowsill at the head of our bed. She also climbs on my lap while I'm working on the computer and sleeps on my chest with her head on my shoulder.

Then again, Butch, who I got as an adult, follows me around, too. Not as much as the kitten, but he usually hangs out in whatever room I'm in.

I guess it depends on the cat. Enjoy it while you can!

Yeah, it depends on the cat, but sometimes it also depends on you. Most of my cats wanted to sleep with me as kittens, but I think I roll and move a lot, so they would stop after awhile. But Maggie, my cat now, I had to train to stop sleeping on my head, because she wants to be as close as possible. Now she either sleeps draped over one of my arms or down by my calf, depending on her mood I guess. I have a tiny little single futon, so its not like there's a lot of room.

Maggie is generally clingy and gets very upset if I won't let her sit on me all the time. I've been knitting a lot, so she fusses at me from the chair arm, and repeatedly tries to sit on my hands and whatever I am knitting if I try to shoo her away. I've had 6-7 cats in my life, and never had a cat as clingy as her. I also had close her out as a kitten because she would bring every one of her toys into my bed in the middle of the night, usually dropping them right on my face.
