new adoptees!

hello all!

I don't know how often people read these, but the "what's in a name" thread made me want to start a new one anyway. I just adopted two beautiful girls from the rescue organization for which I volunteer. Naming the 5-month old was easy (Luna, because she's gray just like the moon and often acts like a complete lunatic), but the two year old girl is much, much more difficult - nothing fits her. She's very white with two big gray patches on her back and a gray patch covering her left eye and a huge fluffy gray tail. She's very quiet and loving, and will purr immediately when you hold her. She looks at Luna with disdain while she plays with her toys, but will groom and love her too. So I guess my question is this: how did you all decide what to name your kids? I've had lots of pets before, and never been so completely stuck for a name. It's been two months, and I still have no idea what to call her. She's due for another round of shots in two months, and I need something to have on her vet records! Help!

The hardest cat for me to name was Gabby. I didn't like anything. I called her Baby for three months. Actually half my family still called her that. I finally went with a name that sounds close to Baby.
As for Crash. Well she knocked everything down off the counters and would run and slide into a wall. She is a rather clustzy cat. So it fits her. Tucker my sister named. And bf named Moxie.
I went to a cat name website. But if you to our photo gallery there are lots of cats and lots of names. Maybe some of those will help you along. BTW do you have a photo?

Well, I can see why something wouldn't pop out right away, she sounds like a very regal and dignified lady. I think she should have a proper name, that's elegant but not too boring.
My favorite name is Lucy, but maybe some others:

Emma
Eliza
Eloise
Martha
Mary
Rose
Sarah
Stella

Those are all people names of course, but your kitty sounds like she takes herself seriously enough for a people name

Long ago, I had a foster who remained nameless for a long, long time. Finally my roomie at the time and I sat down with the cat between us over the course of a couple of days and just reeled off anything that came to mind. Human names, colors, adjectives, feelings. The cat seemed to like one, so we tried it out over a day or two, and it stuck - She became Sassy.

Or once with with a litter of fosters to name, I went through a dictionary and wrote down any thing that jumped out. Came up with "Furgus" (fergus) and Brusier that way. When yet another brown tiger tabby kitten showed up that year, he became Ditto.

Some of my favorite names have been little more then jokes -

Romeo, my beloved boy named after the doomed lover of fame
Mr. Butterbean, a child's name for a yellow tabby
Genus Meowus - he was really smart
Edger Meowin' Poe - a talker
Precious - named for her high adoption cost
Wuzzy - "Fuzzy-wuzzy was a bear" - she is super plush
Pizzy - a blend of 'p-- and vinegar' and er, um, witchy, yeah..
Boticelli - after the Italian artist, and the bot fly that was eating his neck away at the age of 6 weeks.
Elizabeth - named after me since I did so much rescue that year (not my idea)

Its kinda like naming a baby only you don't have the built in months and months to try things out first.

But you describe a cat with some poise and dignity, so may I suggest you go through names of women from great novels?

concats! on your new furbabies, may you have many happy years together!

Purrs,
Elizabeth

Those are perfect! I have about five rolls of film that are all half-finished so I will post some pictures when I can get them developed. She is indeed very self-important and a human name like that is much more fitting. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

While I'm posting, I also wanted to just marvel for a moment at how much these girls have made me a little family. They've made my life so much more complete, and sometimes I just sit and watch them play or groom each other or eat and it gives me such happiness just to have them around. They know when I'm upset and how to comfort me, and they make me laugh. Anyone have any good stories about your cats making your worldly problems seem totally insignificant?

I can't think of any stories right now. But you should take this topic and make it into a new post!!

How about GQ? Short for Gentle Queen? or just Que, short for Quiet Queen? You could end up with a lot of nicjnames for those, LOL! Q-tip would be good!
