Stalking cat...

ExpatJane Mar 10, 2005 07:25 PM

I'm new to the forums, so forgive me if this has already been asked and posted about.

I've had my cat since college. She's 14 years old now. But for a couple of brief periods, when I was in college and my landlord found out I had a pet (I wasn't allowed to have one) and when I moved to South Korea, she's always lived with me.

In fact, when I left for Korea, I got a subletter and I heard that my cat wreaked havoc. So much so that my subletter was convinced my cat was trying to terrorize her (probably true), and, so much so, that I flew back and brought her here when my vacation rolled around. At that time, I thought my cat would be more comfortable staying in our familiar apartment; I'd lived there for almost 7 years at that time. I didn't realize that she's most comfortable knowing I'm nearby.

Since coming to Korea, I do a lot of traveling (not so much now that I've gone back to school.) But I frequently leave and am gone for up to four weeks. (I have friends either take care of her at their places or look after her in my apartment.)

What I've noticed is she's way more attached to me now. We've recently moved, but this behavior seems to have started after my long trips. She literally follows me around the house. I get up - she gets up. I go to the kitchen - she goes to the kitchen. I go to the bathroom - she goes (not literally though.) You get the picture. It's not ALL of the time, but, I would say, probably over 80% or so of the time.

Is this typical? I think it's awfully cute, but I've almost stepped on her a few times...

My six yr old cat Crash does that with me. I moved out about 1.5 yrs ago. I go to the house on the weekends and some week days to visit. She has to be near me or laying on me the whole time I am there. Hopefully soon I will find a place that allows me to have her.
