New cat hiding under bed - should I worry yet?

tedcoconut Jan 16, 2004 11:18 PM

I got a new cat (1 y.o. f) from the pound today, I brought her home about 5:30 pm, took her into "her" room, she was very friendly & purring for about five minutes, then she discovered the space under the bed and I haven't seen her since. I'm guessing she's just hiding out until she feels more comfortable, but I'm worried because she was spayed this morning. I could chase her out from under the bed with a broom or something but it would probably not be the most calming experience for her. Should I just be patient and figure she's ok? She seemed pretty alert & OK when I first got her home.

Do not do anything that will startle the cat at this early date. It could really have negative consequences down the road. Give her time and she'll come out and be friendly.

When we moved to our new house, my cat stayed under the bed for a week! She would only come out at night to use the litterbox and to eat. Gradually she came around and eventually was quite at home.
