New kitten

I have an older male cat (about 9 months). I brought home a new kitten yesterday. I have kept them separated, and have had them together several times, but only for a few minutes. My older cat has been licking the kitten, and then biting her. Once, he even picked her up by her neck and was carrying her around. Is this normal? Is it only play, or should I be worried. Also, the cats have the same mother. I don't know if this will affect their relationship in any way.

Sounds like everything is going well. And that your new kitten has a foster mommy. I would still keep an eye on them just in case the 9 month old gets a little rough with the baby. What are their names and what do they look like?

Is the biting hurting the kitten? If not, then probably everything is OK. Usually the kitten will let out a squeal if he objects to the treatment he is receiving.

Is the older male fixed? He probably should be if not, before you really leave them alone together. Even if the other kitten is neutered, I'd probably not leave them alone together for at least another three days or so, just in case.

It does sound like things are going well and that they will be pretty good friends fairly quickly. Good luck!
