Kitty/Mother Problems

blueyedtreefrog Sep 08, 2004 08:43 AM

Remember my crybaby kitty? Well she has imporved drastically in a week and a half's time. She doesn't cry so much anymore and she lets me pet her at least onece everyday! I usually never see her in the morning but this morning she was following me around like a shadow.

My concern is with my mother. She used to sit with her and let her pet her for like an hour, but now the cat wont go near her and I really don't know why. I tried to tell her just to ignore her and give her treats, but she's too stubborn to listen to me and she's mad because the cat "likes me better than her".

Is there any other advice I could give her? I told my mom that the cat has a mind of her own and that you can't force anything on her, so don't even try. I give her attention when she comes to me, I don't go to her. Could this be why she doesn't like my mom so much?

Thanks in advance!

It's the treats! Really! The kitten now associates you with food. If you haven't already done so, stop now that she's friendly. Talk to your mom about how you got the kitten to bond by avoiding a lot of eye contact and direct contact and letting the kitten make the first move. And then tell your mom to give the kitten a few treats too, plus have mom feed her at least one feeding at day!

My mom feeds the cat everyday.

Sounds like the kitten may be a one-person cat! Since your mom feeds her there's not much else to do except for her to try not to force the issue, and maybe also play some fun games with her! The kitten may come around as she gets older.

I don't think that she's a kitten. The lady that got her from told me that she was around a year old. And her little teats kinda stick out so that leads my mother and I to believe that she may have had a litter previously.

Surprisingly, she is becoming more friendly to my mother. She said that the cat hung out with her yesterday and let her per her a few times so, I think she just has "tortie-tude".

Thanks for all your advice.
