Follow-up on kitten and Maine Coon.

freakwriter Dec 06, 2004 01:29 PM

I just wanted to drop a note to thank everyone for their advice re: the 8 week old kitten and 11-month Maine Coon. The two are doing quite well together (I still haven't developed film, so I can't post pics), but they do cuddle up together and play together (sometimes rougher than we'd like, but no one's getting hurt). Sometimes the kitten suckles on Inka, but he's fairly tolerant and will eventually roll over or push her away. They sleep together a lot--particularly when we're not home. After about 10 days, we started letting them interact pretty extensively, and now they spend every waking moment together. They've survived a long road trip over Thanksgiving (7 hours each way in the cab of a truck) and seem to be doing well.

Inka has only peed twice in the three weeks since we brought Bajha home, and those were both times that he wasn't allowed outside for a few days. (He hasn't peed on the new recliner we got around the same time, either!) They're just generally two happy kids, playing and sleeping (and constantly eating each other's food). Does anyone have suggestions for trying to keep the kitten eating kitten food rather than cat food? We've tried putting the cat food up higher, but she's a crazy jumper and has foiled every attempt...Though that would be my only complaint so far!

Sounds like things are going well! I'm glad to hear they are becoming buddies!

Perhaps you should just consider feeding the kitten a good high-quality adult food which the big kitty could also eat. Or feed the kitten first and then move him to another room and shut the door when you feed the big guy.

Or you could feed them both kitten food. I pretty sure you said the Inka is only 11 months. I think your suppose to feed kitten food until at 12 months. It probably wouldn't hurt the Coon to eat kitten food longer then 12 months. They do take two yrs to go into their bodies.
