A good story

Thought i would share a good story for everyone.

I adopted Victoria back in January of 2003 from the Humane Society at the age of a year, she jumped right at me (literally, btw, but that is another story), loved her to death. She was and still is my girl. She will let me come up to her, bring her to the couch and watch tv with me, on her back laying down just beside me for at least an hour, just chilling with me.

I realized that i wasn't always able to be here, because of work and school, so i started to think about finding her a playmate in September of last year.

I took my time, waited for the "right" kitten. That is when i found Nero at the same place in November. He was 3 months when i got him (i read here to find a younger cat). I kept him in a room by himself for two weeks, rubbing a towel on both of them the whole time, seperated. after two weeks, i cracked open the door to let them see each other the first time. the usual hisses and paws stuff happened, but i wouldn't let anything go beyond that. another week goes by, and i allowed supervised visits. just a few minutes at first, but by the end of the week it was allowed in the whole apartment. Victoria would look at me like "You brought THIS THING into our how?!?!?!" which was extremely cute.

Fast forward to tonight... they act like brother and sister now. Victoria is the older sister, prefers just to chill until Nero gets her going. Nero plays the younger brother, seeing how far he can get without getting Victoria to put him in his place. I don't even need to scold Nero when he does a no no, Victoria already does it for me!!!! There have been times when he will do something(he is very much still a kid) and Victoria will look at me like "Do you want to take this one, or should I?"

So this is our happy home. The point of this i guess is that if you take the time for the introduction, things can go VERY well!

ps. im still trying to get a picture of Nero, before you ask

Forgot to mention, Victoria has been sitting next to me this entire time in her own chair, making sure i get it right.

That IS a good story! I'm glad Victoria fit into her new home so well. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Oh my goodness, Nero looks just like my KatyKatt. I'll post her picture here for you to compare.

What a perfect introduction between Victoria and Nero! It sounds like you did everything right and it turned out perfect. It's so good that you took your time and did your 'introduction' homework beforehand. You sound like such a caring cat parent.

I'm wondering, when Victoria lies on the couch beside you in the belly-up position and you're watching TV, does she let you pet her belly? If so, this is the ultimate sign of trust because the belly-up position is a fight postition where cats have a natural instinct to kick with their back feet.
