Working with an abused kitty?

rexyboy Oct 22, 2005 05:03 PM

We just adopted a beautiful kitty we named Razzels, today is her second day home. She was found in a dumpster at a convience store. I heard the workers were very mean to her. They sprayed water on her and threw things at her. She had 3 kittens and was not going to leave them. The local animal shelter went and got her and her kittens. That is where we got her from. She is very afraid of everything....and I don't blame her. We have introduced her to our other cat Rex. They seem to like one another. Razzels hides in any hole she can find. And will only let us pet her if we hold her so she can't get away. I am looking for any advice you can give us. We don't want to push her....but we also know the GOOD human interaction is important. For the time being, we have her sucluded to one room where she can stretch her legs by herself. We check in on her every couple hours to talk and pet. She is such a precious kitty and really deserves a chance to be happy and not want for anything. Please help us with any ideals you may have.

Update.....Razzels is really coming around. Rex, our older kitty has really helped her come out of her shell. He acutally talks to Razzels. I wish I could understand what he is saying. He coaxes her to come out of hiding. We are slowly introducing our family to her. It is kinda funny. She does very well if only one person at a time visits with her. She likes it when you are sitting (not laying either) on the floor with her. If you stand, she is very intimidated. So far she has done everything but climb into my lap. She loves to be rubbed...altough she stays just barely in your reach...and only one hand at a time please. The best thing of all is to hear her purring and to see her take her claws and kneed the carpet. She is going to be a very loved and pampered part of our family. I will post a picture as soon as I feel flash won't scare her.

It does sound like the kitty is adjusting well! I am sure she will give you many loving years of happiness. Best wishes to her and bless you for taking her in!
