Does she need a new friend?

evil_kitten May 26, 2006 10:45 AM

Hello everyone!

My kitty seems a little lonesome but I'm not sure if I'm interpeting her wants correctly. She will meow at me the way she does when she wants something but she is well fed, has fresh water, her litterbox is clean, and I give her all the play and affection she wants from me. It doesn't seem enough though! I have many statuettes of cats and she often will smell them and rub against them.

we used to have another cat when I lived with my parents and she got along with him fantastically.

So what does everyone think should I run off to the SPCA and get ourselves a new little furbaby?

Hi There,

My feeling is that most cats ultimately do best living with at least one other cat. Especially a kitty such as yours, who had a kitty buddy before.

As long as you are willing to deal with the initial introduction period, I think adding to your feline family is a wonderful idea

A new addition ideally should be isolated for a period of about 2 weeks before he or she meets the resident kitty. During this time, the cats will start getting used to each other's smells. There will probably be some hissing and growling through or under the door.

Please be sure that the new baby is vet checked and is negative for FeLV and feline AIDS before bringing him or her home.

And let us know if you would like some more tips for introducing kitties.

Regards,
PHKitkat

Thank you for your response. I've been thinking about it all day and discussed it with my partner. We both think she needs a friend, I have a spare room also to isolate the new kitty while they both adjust. I think I'm going to go pay the S.P.C.A. a visit as they neuter, vaccinate, and check for diseases.

Sounds like a great plan!

Please keep us updated on your new baby once he or she is home
