spartanburg county just announced that it is planning to ban the keeping of all venomous herps & snakes that can attain 14ft length. there's not many of us but we intend to fight!
this nonsense was inspired by "tigers in the news" and a HSUS local type who has jonesed for this for a while. the ban would also include most any animal that might be found in a zoo, so we will have some allies there.
while i might not oppose a good permitting regime a ban is unacceptable. we need whatever resources you good folks might know of. to the barricades!

Who wants this ban? Who has the authority? You are quite correct is wanting a permit system in lieu of a toatal ban. Who should be contacted to ask about alternatives? Do you have elections coming up soon? Who is in charge og the county? A president? A board president? Head Commissioner? How do we contact them? ~Will~

the issue is being pushed by the county environmental officer, who has strong HSUS tendencies. our county is ruled by an elected council, essentially a gang of real estate people. no elections in usable time frame. the issue is being bundled with a proposed 2 tier licencing scheme for neutered & unneutered dogs & cats, an attempt to reduce the obscene numbers of euthanasias performed each year.
any suggestions?

here's the deal; this HSUS guy announced his intention of including a ban on all "dangerous animals" in new regulations intended to reduce the # of euthanasias in our county. the last public meeting for commentwas held the same day! the regs go to the county council for 1st reading on 10/20/03. I need help quick. we are mobilizing but are new at this and would appreciate any input. Thanks1

Would love to help you, but need just a little more info! You gave the county, but did not even mention the state. Giving the name of the state would help a lot! I assume it is SC. But, can't be sure as their are dozens of Spartenburg Countys in the USA. Thank you.

What is truely amazing is that in NYC where it is illegal to own adn iguana, in the state of NY where it is illegal to give an animal as a prize, yet in NYC, you can win an iguana at a carnival.
